Why do wool rugs need special cleaning?
Wool is durable and naturally soil-resistant, which is why it is the most common fiber in fine rugs. It is also sensitive. Wool holds a coat of natural oil called lanolin that repels dirt, and high heat, harsh detergent, or the wrong pH strips that oil and leaves the fiber dry and brittle.
