For three decades The Rug Bindery has been serving the Treasure Valley with custom Binding services and even custom sculpted rug fabrication. If you ever had the pleasure to work with George, then you know how talented and easy going he is. Fiber Specialties has worked with him over the years, and when he indicated he wanted to start inching into retirement, we decided to take his services into our repair shop as an added value to our clients, and a continuation for his. You may see George hanging around our shop, working on various projects, and you are sure to get the same continued dedication and pride of workmanship as you have always had from both of our shops.

Binding is an affordable and durable way to provide a simple "Flat Tape" finished edge to almost any carpet or rug. It is used extensively in making large area rugs from Carpet remnants, Commercial carpeted base molding, and custom entry mats. We have multiple styles and colors to coordinate with almost any rug.
Serging is a more traditional edge finish where a coodinating yarn is "wrapped" around or sewn on to the edges of the rug. We have decades of experience doing this on Private Jets around the world and are able to do multiple styles, often emulating a hand wrapped edge. This can be used to finish off a resized rug, stair runners, and even to replace the fringe on certain rugs. We take great pride in our custom wool serging work.
Rugs are resized for different reasons. When a rug is damaged, reducing or resizing has been the go-to repair for thousands of years. We have extensive experience in resizing and reducing rugs from machine made, hand-tufted, to oriental rugs. We have multiple techniques, processes and side and end finishes we can offer. Although most resizing will be included in an end or side finish option, we always want to quote this type of work.
A well made rug can last through generations, however a well used rug will need some kind of repair at some point in its life. We do all the standard repairs ourselves in our shop, and can walk you through the options . When there is damage to the rug or something seems to be unravelling, it is best to take care of it right away before it gets worse! For intense weaving repair needs, we have multiple sources around the world that are the best repair weavers in their field.
A very common repair to handmade rugs, The fringe is made up of the Warp Foundation for the rug, they run end to end all the way through the rug. The securement keeps the rug from unraveling itself, sometimes this securement stitch gets broken and often goes unnoticed until its too late. We will always check this and notify you of the options at our intake inspection
Sidecords are another commonly damaged area of the rug, some sidecords are put on after the fact, and some are integral to the rug, nonetheless they take a beating! Again its best to take care of sidecord issues as soon as possible before it gets worse and more expensive.
Often repairs get deferred, or the damage was unseen before it was too late. Sometimes the full repair exceeds the value of the rug, but maybe that damaged area could be hidden under a chair or other piece of furniture. Simply "securing" the damage will stop it from getting worse.
