The Fiber Specialties Rug cleaning process

Getting your Rugs to the right place!

The first step in this process is of course getting your rugs in the hands of one of our Highly Certified Master Rug Cleaners. This can be accomplished one of two ways.

First, you can drop off your rugs at our conveniently located facility on West Overland Road. You can make an appointment by giving us a call to make sure will be available to help receive and unload your rugs, or just stop by during normal business  hours.

The second option is to have your rugs picked up from your location and transported to our facility by our team.  For us to pick up and delivery, rugs need to be rolled and ready , or ready to roll. We do not move furniture. If furniture needs to be moved, we work with a third party moving company who is properly insured for furniture moving.

Area rug incoming inspection

Detailed Inspection.

The next step in your rugs journey will be a thorough inspection by our rug cleaning experts. Based on the unique characteristics of your rug and its restorative cleaning needs, our specialists will write a prescription for your rug. This prescription will serve as a treatment plan and will be utilized throughout the entire process to ensure the best possible restorative cleaning outcome is accomplished. The technician may need to ask you some simple questions that will help us better service your rug. This inspection and Q&A interaction is particularly important for maximum success of outcome. Although best done in person with you or your representative it can be accomplished virtually as well.

rug tracking

Individual Rug Process

There is no "One Size Fits All" cleaning process, rugs cannot just be fed into a machine to clean them. Your customer information and rug will have an individual profile created in our software system. The rug is photographed and  has its fiber content, individual  characteristics, conditions, and cleaning treatment plan entered in to be used during the visit but also kept as a history for future care. The rug is given  a waterproof Tyvek tag to serve as a way to track its progress through every step.

Our system provides multiple ways to communicate with you via text and email for approvals, photos, pertinent notifications, and even billing.

Air Dusting Area Rugs

Dry Soil Removal

With the inspection and approval complete now your rug will need to be relieved of the number one damage causing substance it will ever have to deal with… loose dry soil! Did you know that your rug can literally hold pounds of dirt and sand without looking dirty? This loose dry soil, when viewed under a microscope has the appearance of jagged little pieces of broken glass. These tiny particles work like micro sandpaper abrading your rugs fibers. Our technician may have demonstrated this to you during the inspection process. Depending on the rug construction we will use powerful vacuuming, air dusting and/ or multiple other mechanical methods to get the absolute most loose dry soil out of your rug before we even start washing.  This is the most important part of rug cleaning, and is the number one reason rugs should always be washed at a facility such as ours.

Bath Time!

Now it is time for your rug to take a bath…. literally! At this point you probably understand that we treat every rug with individualized care. So, the manner in which we clean “wash” your rug will again be determined buy its unique characteristics and cleaning needs. Fiber Specialties has three Certified Master Rug Cleaners who are also Woolsafe Certified, and IICRC certified, and are constantly testing new products and processes to get the most out of your rug!  From our custom rug cleaning wash floor, to our actual rug bath tub, to our low moisture dry cleaning system, we have the right equipment, knowledge,  products and technology to service any type of rug or textile. Natural fiber rugs are thoroughly rinsed to a fiber specific corrective PH to keep fibers as healthy as possible.

Controlled Drying.

Your rug will then be properly control dried utilizing the drying system best suited for your type of rug. Our facility is equipped with a 14' custom Turkish Centrifuge to fully rinse and safely spin dry rugs multiple times within minutes  which is imperative for a successful cleaning and full soil and residue removal . Next the rug is finished our dedicated heated and humidity controlled drying room with the ability to dry rugs vertically or horizontally. with our 15,000 sf lot, we often use the wonderful Idaho sunshine during the summer. Throughout this process our technicians will monitor your rugs and use moisture meters  to confirm the drying process completion.

After Rug Cleaning, very rug gets multiple finishing techniques

Final Finishing

Once the rug has been dried our technicians will do a final inspection and perform the “final finishing” to your rug. At this point if our Rug Specialist is not 100% satisfied with the cleaning, the rug may be sent back for additional steps at no extra charge to the client. This step is a feature that truly sets our cleaning process apart. This final inspection will ensure that your rug has received the maximum benefit from any cleaning process. We will also finish most rug by trimming any loose fibers and utilize proprietary techniques to clean fringes  and deal with troublesome spots when applicable. If a rug was quoted for any repair work, this is typically when the repair process starts.
