Although we have decades of combined experience in fine textile maintenance and protection we believe it is the unique nature of our individual backgrounds that make our team so well suited to provide the most outstanding service experience possible!
Devin Frizzell, MRC
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, and raised up and down the East Coast, Devin has lived in many states—from Florida to Alaska. Harnessing his creativity and experiences in varied careers such as commercial fishing, the film industry, sailing, business jet aircraft interior design, and VIP interior installations, he joined the high-end cleaning industry in 2015 and never looked back. During his 20-year career in aviation, Devin planted roots in Boise in 2008 and has been enjoying all that Idaho has to offer since.
Devin enjoys staying active with his daughters in Boise, traveling the world with friends and family, and every once in a while, Derick will allow him back on the rug washing floor. Devin holds a Master Rug Cleaner certification, multiple IICRC and WoolSafe certifications, and also an Airframe and Powerplant license from the FAA. Devin heads the front of house; greeting clients, overseeing and developing custom repairs, and often handling pick-up and delivery routes to stay in shape without a gym.
Derick Porter , MRC, Rug Restorative Cleaning Specialist
Derick Porter is a fifth-generation Idahoan whose family lineage dates back to the early days of Idaho statehood. His early career was spent in the service and hospitality industry, where he excelled at providing outstanding customer service. Derick spent half a decade in the VIP aviation interior field, where his keen eye for detail in installing and fabricating private jet interiors led him to specialize in custom hand-tufted carpet installation and custom upholstery.
Heading the shop’s Fine Rug Restorative Cleaning department at Fiber Specialties, he holds multiple certifications from the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) and is also a Certified Master Rug Cleaner. Derick is continually attending classes, training events, and communicating with industry frontrunners to hone his craft and stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies. He enjoys spending time with his daughter Lily, his family and friends, and keeping up with his favorite team—the Green Bay Packers.
Violet Frizzell , Repair Specialist
The beginning of Fiber Specialties’ second generation! Violet brings her family’s long line of creativity and talent to the repair side of the shop. Growing up in the Frizzell family fostered her love for travel, creativity, and hard work. Violet is a certified MIG/TIG welder and fabricator, an artist, musician, and—yes—Devin’s daughter. We’re lucky to have her keen eye for detail and love of textiles working on our clients’ rugs. Violet is often up front in our showroom, greeting clients, handling repairs or resizes, and finishing rugs. When a piece of our custom rug cleaning equipment breaks down, she’s out back donning a welding helmet and getting us back in business! Catch her band “Proxi” playing downtown and usually at Treefort!
Josh Taylor
Another Boise native, Josh has been friends with Derick and his family since high school. As Fiber Specialties grew and we needed a new permanent rug tech, we reached out to friends for temporary help one busy summer. Josh had been watching viral rug washing videos and offered to step in for a few weeks. He just never left.
Josh is multi-talented—a mechanic, IT specialist, golfer, and our resident encyclopedia. Growing up in Boise delivering pizzas, his impressive, in-depth knowledge of back roads makes him an invaluable asset for navigating traffic and constant construction during pick-up and delivery days. We’re glad Josh decided to stick around.
