Sanitizing, Disinfection, and Odor Removal

We have been offering disinfection, sanitizing, and odor removal services to our VIP aviation clients since 2015. Our team includes IICRC-certified personnel specializing in odor control, and we take great care to use pH-neutral and appropriate solutions for delicate interior finishes. We specialize in aircraft odor removal, addressing issues such as mildew, cigarette and cigar smoke, cooking smells, and more.

Entry and Throw rugs

Entry rugs and throw rugs receive the lion’s share of soiling and abuse. Did you know that keeping these clean can help keep the rest of your carpet even cleaner? Once throw rugs become saturated with oils and dirt, they can transfer that soil to the surrounding carpet. Many of our clients send us their throw and entry rugs, or a spare set for us to restore in-house at our facility multiple times a year. By doing this, they can reduce the frequency of cleanings for their cabin carpets! We typically turn these around quickly and also offer repairs to serging and backings.

Fiber ProTector Application

Applying Fiber ProTector to your new or in-service aircraft textiles is the best investment you can make to keep your textiles looking great and extend their lifespan until the next major inspection or refurbishment. Our team, with decades of experience in designing, completing, and refurbishing VIP interiors, consistently sees our long-term clients enjoying over four years of benefits from a single treatment. We can perform the Fiber ProTector treatment on rolled goods or finished aircraft at most MROs, select OEMs, or even at your private hangar.

Send us your brand new Aircraft carpet to add Fiber ProTector!

The best time to apply Fiber ProTector is right from the mill, when your carpet is at its cleanest! We can accept your carpet while its still in the crate, unroll it, inspect it, treat it, and reship it with minimal downtime. This protects your carpet from the moment it is unrolled at the MRO/OEM and while it is cut and installed during completion. We can also offer Pre shrinking, De-shedding treatments, and disinfectant applications for carpets from overseas.

AVIATION CARPET CLEANING INFORMATION

-ARCS (Association of Rug Care Specialists)The Association of Rug Care Specialists (ARCS) is an international organization of rug cleaners founded to enhance the quality of area rug care across the industry. Fiber Specialties is an ARCS certified rug cleaning plant.

-IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) is the leading technician certification requiring on site training to ensure the quality of the cleaning industry.  Fiber Specialties Technicians hold multiple IICRC certifications

-MRC (Certified Master Rug Cleaner)The International Gold Standard in training and certification for Rug Cleaning Professionals.  Fiber Specialties has multiple Certified Master Rug Cleaners on staff.

-CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) certifies equipment, processes, solutions, and firms on behalf of most if not all carpet manufacturers (the vacuum you use must be CRI certified or most warranties are void!)

-Woolsafe International tests and endorses Firms, Technicians, and products on behalf of the wool Industry.  Fiber Specialties is a Woolsafe certified Firm and all technicians are Woolsafe certified.

The above certifications are absolutely necessary when choosing a cleaner, however they are just the start. Most mobile cleaners and cleaning companies main focus and/or experience is on synthetic residential carpets and durable synthetic upholstery. Their equipment, chemicals, techniques are going to reflect their experience cleaning those types of textiles. Furthermore even the high end residential area rug cleaning market consists of full immersion baths for common sizes. This is not practical or possible all of the time, if ever, for aircraft carpets. Fiber Specialties Aviation Cleaning processes is unique in that our processes, techniques, and equipment are specifically developed to clean wool and silk blend carpets inside or out of the aircraft. Fiber Specialties also brings 15+ years of VIP aircraft interior design, material, and installation experience, and trains all our IICRC certified cleaners with the VIP Aircraft in mind.

AVLM (Aircraft Very Low Moisture) cleaning uses specifically formulated PH neutral solutions using very little hot distilled water to maximize nano-particle soil encapsulation and specialized dry extraction while not over wetting the textiles. This effectively removes all risk of shrinkage, matting, de- lamination of backing, mold, water intrusion under carpet, and/or corrosion of hardware. VLM Cleaning is a IICRC and CRI approved process. With our Aircraft specific (AVLM cleaning), carpets and textiles are typically dry within a few hours of completion. Our cleaning leaves no residue and does not promote re-soiling like many other cleaning processes, in fact our cleaning will remove residues left behind by other cleaners!

AVLM cleaning is the first step in cleaning a wool/silk blend carpets and textiles. We utilize PH testers, Microscopes, Fiber testing, and UV lights to identify spots and their content. We will treat individual spots and stains per the specific need. We also employ CRI Vacuuming, Pile Lifting, shearing, and hot/cold water extraction when necessary and of course grooming and air movers to ensure controlled drying.

Most cleaning companies are insured, however, unless their company is insured to specifically work on and around Aircraft, more than likely their policy specifically excludes insuring any damage to aircraft. Along with having decades of experience with VIP aircraft interiors, Fiber Specialties is insured specifically to work in and around aircraft and hangars.

Absolutely, in fact, this type of cleaning should be done at more consistent intervals to avoid needing to do more restorative techniques that may need to be completed outside of the aircraft. That being said, we can always get a more effective cleaning when the carpet is removed. Our Cleaning Process is guaranteed not to harm a Fiber ProTector treatment.

Not all protection treatments are created equal. We just happen to use the best, and are the exclusive on site aviation applicator in the USA. Fiber ProTector is a long lasting, safe, UV inhibitor, static reducer, and bacterio-static, all the while protecting your investment from spills and stains. No other product on the market performs like Fiber ProTector. Please ask us for more information.

Every aircraft will have a different set of needs when it comes to cleaning. Some passengers take there shoes off, some may bring pets on board, others cook elaborate meals. All of these factors come into play when deciding how often to clean your carpet and textiles. Keep in mind these three basics;

Use an appropriate CRI vacuum, vacuum slowly on the pull stroke, vacuum daily if possible, and always before and after a flight.

Take care of these as soon as possible with water or your PH neutral spot and stain remover as necessary. The sooner, the better.

Most carpets only get cleaned when they LOOK dirty. This is often too late. If the carpet is visibly soiled, more than likely there is fiber damage. This is the most common mistake, and the most common reason for premature carpet replacement.

Would you neglect a hot section inspection, how about a landing gear overhaul? I already know the answer to that. What is surprising is that poor carpet maintenance is far too common. Carpet performance is directly related to; Poor vacuuming schedules, Poor quality service providers, and Neglected cleaning schedules, which in turn, lead to premature replacement. If you have read this far, you have educated yourself to make the right choices when it comes to maintaining your carpets and textiles.

The chart below is a good graphic of what happens to a carpets “visual” appearance in relation to “Planned”, “Unplanned” or “Random”, and “Neglected” cleaning schedules. Depending on the type of carpet (the color, design, fiber content) and the type of traffic and soiling, a neglected and/or improperly cleaned carpet could have an unacceptable appearance in as little as 6 months! Contrarily, the same carpet with the same traffic that has been maintained correctly can have a useful life of decades. As an aircraft designer, I have personally seen both sides of this spectrum.
